Christine settles in as head of Waterloo Road but quickly finds new deputy Simon is after her job. As well as unruly students and her drink problem, old friend George is not all he seems.
The storylines may seem a little tired but it’s the convincing performances from an ensemble cast that keep this classroom drama afloat as its ninth season rumbles on. Cynical George Windsor (Angus Deayton) is in meltdown this week after his cherubic wife Princess announces she is leaving her dull marriage for London. “It looks like I’m Mr Drear and Lonely once again,” he muses, perfectly hitting the nail on the head.
Meanwhile, a “sexting” scandal sweeps the corridors, turning the sixth form into a pack of baying vultures picking over the humiliation of their peers with uncomfortable glee. However it’s not all bad. This latest crisis provokes something of a first for Waterloo Road: an outpouring of compassion from gloomy head Christine.
