Episode 4: Cripples, B****rds and Broken Things

Summary

Ned searches for the truth about Jon Arryn's death, but is far from certain he can trust Pycelle or Littlefinger. The balance of power between the exiled Targaryens shifts dramatically, Jon Snow befriends a vulnerable new recruit at the great Wall, and Bran's recovery is made more difficult by a series of disturbing dreams. Fantasy drama, starring Sean Bean, Aiden Gillen and Julian Glover

Review

The medieval theme park of Game of Thrones certainly has a superior class of strolling player. Look among the non-vital, middle-ground characters and you’ll see Julian Glover as wispy-bearded sage Pycelle, and Iain Glen as exiled knight Ser Jorah Mormont. Such is the fun to be had from watching this expansive saga in its more leisurely moments, and there have been plenty of those up till now.
Fortunately, the overall momentum is picking up as the plot threads begin to converge. This week Daenerys — a sort of blonde Xena — has some meaty spats with her debased blackguard of a brother, Viserys; Stark’s bastard son Jon makes enemies when he stands up for a thin-skinned new recruit on the Night Watch; and the hedonistic ways of caustic dwarf Tyrion look like coming to an end.
There’s plenty of quality on show, and some sort of award is due to the designer of the opening credits, which are like a JRR Tolkien map brought spine-tinglingly to life.
