Lord Eddard Stark faces a dilemma when he is asked to serve at the side of King Robert Baratheon, Bran is crippled after discovering a revelation, and suffers another attempt on his life.
The conflicts are cranked up in a testosterone-fuelled edition of the HBO swords and saucery saga. The King and Queen argue over the recuperating Stark, while the jailed Tyrion tries yet again to worm his way out of trouble, demanding trial by combat and claiming that his clan’s wealth entitles him to buy a champion.
Chief among the ne’er-do-wells, Viserys oversteps the mark by dissing the Dothraki – never a wise move. There’s the usual smattering of shocks, and this episode’s “I’m sure I know that face” moment comes when Bran is set upon by brigands: the eagle-eyed will spot Natalia Tena, who plays Tonks in the Harry Potter films. It’s a small fantasy world, it seems.
