Summary
Two unsolved double murders from the 1980s cast a shadow over Dyfed Powys police force, so in 2006, Detective Superintendent Steve Wilkins decides to reopen both cases.
Two unsolved double murders from the 1980s cast a shadow over Dyfed Powys police force, so in 2006, Detective Superintendent Steve Wilkins decides to reopen both cases.
In June 1989, married couple Peter and Gwenda Dixon were shot dead as they walked along a cliff-top coastal path in Wales. The murders prompted a national wave of revulsion and, locally, fear. But despite intensive investigations, their killer wasn’t caught.
As we join this thoughtful, absorbing dramatisation by Nick Stevens, which runs nightly until Wednesday, it’s 2006 and Det Supt Steve Wilkins (Luke Evans) returns to Pembrokeshire after a spell at the Met in London.
He’s restless but his attention is soon absorbed by the killing of the Dixons, and the murder of another couple, along with a series of other serious crimes.
Wilkins gathers a small team and launches a cold case review, in secret. The detectives are looking for a DNA “golden nugget”, that one piece of forensic evidence that will lead them to their man, suspect John William Cooper (Keith Allen).
