Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's tale of an imminent apocalypse is already a much loved radio play so it's little wonder fans are so excited to see it brought to life on television.

Good Omens tells the tale of a Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle. The pair are feeling rather uneasy about the fact that forces of good an evil look set for a war that will bring an end to life as we know it. Oh, and there's some concern about the fact that someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

A ginger-haired David Tennant (Crowley) and Michael Sheen (Aziraphale) lead the quite frankly stellar cast of the six-part series, which includes Mad Men's John Hamm, Line of Duty’s Daniel Mays and Sherlock’s Sian Brooke.

Gaiman penned every episode, and will serve as showrunner.

Good Omens is due to stream on Amazon Prime Video in 2018 with a BBC broadcast date to follow

10. A Discovery of Witches - Deborah Harkness

A Discovery of Witches
Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer in A Discovery of Witches

Historian Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) has long been trying to keep her personal and professional lives separate by turning away from her inherited magical powers and burying herself in her studies. But when she comes across a mysterious book known only as Ashmole 782, her past begins to catch up with her.

Diana knows she needs to solve the mystery of the manuscript and when Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode) offers his assistance she’s faced with quite the dilemma. Should she trust the enigmatic vampire? Or do what every good witch knows she should and stay as far away from him as possible?

Alex Kingston (best known for her roles as River Song in Doctor Who and Dr Elizabeth Corday in ER) will play Diana's aunt Sarah, a “powerful witch and fierce protector of her family” known for her plain-speaking. Lindsay Duncan (who played Adelaide Brooke in Doctor Who and Lady Smallwood in Sherlock) will portray Ysabeau de Clermont, the vampire mother of Goode’s Matthew Clairmont who has a “powerful dislike of witches”.
