The Two Doctors – Spain

Spain has long been a favourite location for Doctor Who. Back in 1985, the production team started the trend in this serial which sees the sixth Doctor meet an earlier incarnation of himself. Colin Baker and Patrick Troughton filmed scenes together in sunny Seville, and together with their companions defeat the unsavoury Androgums, Chessene and Shockeye, against a beautiful backdrop and famous sites including the Seville cathedral and Plaza de la Alianza.

The Angels take Manhattan – New York

The Big Apple has had plenty of cameos, but only 11th Doctor Matt Smith and his companions actually got to visit the city. Central Park features in The Angels take Manhattan, where we see the Doctor, Amy and Rory reading while sitting on the hill by Wollman Rink. The trio explore Manhattan in the modern day and the 1930s, while trying to avoid being trapped in the wrong period by the Weeping Angels. Look out for famous sites, including Times Square and Grand Central Station.

The Impossible Astronaut – Arizona

The cast went on a mini road trip during the filming of this episode, and as well Utah, they end up in the neighbouring state on a reservoir on the Colorado River. It’s at Lake Powell (known as Lake Silencio in the episode) that we see the Doctor killed by a mysterious figure in a space suit. Filming took place at Lone Rock Beach, which can be accessed from Route 89. It's possible to drive right up to the water's edge and even camp here.
