Episode 6: A Royal Find in the Bushes

Summary

Izzie Balmer and Robin Johnson take on the challenge of clearing a cluttered seaside second home, where a couple's treasured collectibles and heirlooms have become overwhelming reminders of loved ones they've lost. The house remains unsellable until they let go of the past. Jo and husband Jess want to enjoy their passion for painting, pottery and playing pool. However, their plans for a perfect retirement are on hold. Three years ago, Jo's mother passed away after a long battle with Covid. The contents of her late mum's home ended up in Jo's seaside retreat. However, selling sentimental items is too upsetting and has delayed the sale of their property. Izzie must find objects worthy of taking to auction, but she is overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the collection Jess, Jo and her mum have curated. Some items have both significant financial value and sentimental worth, such as a solid silver cup gifted to Jo by her late mum. Others have a story that may interest auction bidders, but will a pair of doors from the Houses of Parliament find a new home? A few pieces of furniture are too damaged to auction, but restorer Robin saves a worn-out old chair from the dump with a sympathetic repair. He also uses a little French polish and a lot of expertise to restore a tired tabletop cabinet. On auction day, a tree trunk carving with a royal connection has everyone on the edge of their seats.
