A quick dose of weird Lord of the Rings wedding news now: Ian McKellen turned down $1.5 million (£1.14 million) to officiate a wedding dressed as Gandalf (presumably Gandalf the Grey in order to avoid clashes with the bride).

“I was offered one-and-a-half million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California," McKellen told the Mail on Sunday, "which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf.

“So I said, “I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings.”

Sir Ian has officiated a marriage before – he conducted the civil wedding of best friend Sir Patrick Stewart and fiancee Sunny Ozell in 2013.
