The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place in its usual January 2021 spot but, like many awards ceremonies this year, was pushed back to April due to the pandemic. ITV has now confirmed the event will go ahead in O2 London in September instead.

Dommett will be at the helm this year following his turn hosting ITV's The Masked Singer.

Speaking of the news, Dommett said: "It's a huge honour to be hosting the NTAs this year! It still feels like someone has made a wonderful error."

He added: "I really, really love TV and can't wait to celebrate the best stuff from what's been a very weird year or so. I'm also really hoping The Masked Singer wins something so I can present an award to myself. That's a creative narcissist's dream!"

Considering how successful the madcap talent show is, we wouldn't be surprised.

NTA's Executive Producer Kim Turberville said: "We are so excited to be back to celebrate a remarkable TV year like no other. There is a wealth of great television to recognise and we are delighted to have Joel a the helm. With his wit and natural charisma, he'll definitely be bringing a fresh approach to this year's awards."

The awards will celebrate the dramas, entertainment shows, talent contests, comedies, documentaries and personalities that have made the biggest impact on the UK's TV landscape over the past 17 months, according to the British public.

Want to have your say on who should win an NTA? Voting opens on 25th May 2021 when the longlist will be revealed, all you have to do is head over to nationaltvawards.com.
