The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair was an international best-seller when it was written in 2012, and is being made into a ten-part television series.

Dempsey will play Harry, a literary icon who suddenly finds himself indicted for murder after the body of a young girl is found buried on his property.

Marcus Goldman, a successful young novelist who has been mentored by Harry, will be played by Ben Schnetzer.

The story takes place in coastal Maine and focuses on Marcus who is visiting Harry’s home to find a cure for his writer’s block as his publisher’s deadline looms.

Marcus’s plans are suddenly upended when Harry is sensationally implicated in the cold-case murder of Nola Kellergan, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been missing for many years.

The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair will be Dempsey’s first TV role since he left Grey’s Anatomy two years ago. After playing the beloved Dr Derek Shepherd – aka McDreamy – for ten years, he has appeared in Bridget Jones’s Baby and the US version of Red Nose Day Actually.

Oscar-winning French film director Jean-Jacques Annaud will make his TV debut on this twisting tale and will direct all episodes.

Joining Dempsey in the cast will be Happy Endings alum Damon Wayans Jr as Sgt Perry Gahalowood, a Maine State Police investigator who is investigating the death of Kellergan, and Virginia Madsen as Tamara Quinn, the owner of a local diner who learns of a secret about Quebert.
