5. EastEnders, Christmas Day (2002)

EastEnders fans always get served a thick slice of sadness at Christmas, but there was another classic moment in 2002 when Jamie Mitchell died in hospital after being run over by Martin Fowler. As a choir sang Stand By Me, Jamie’s wife Sonia was by his bedside as he passed away in her arms. It’s so bleak in Walford at December it’s any wonder they ever even put decorations up.
