Bad news Harry Potter fans, it seems JK Rowling is going to be focusing less on the wizarding underworld and more on the criminal one for the foreseeable future as her sights are set on continuing her series of Cormoran Strike detective novels, with up to another ten books on the cards.

In an interview with the BBC, Rowling explained that she had warned actor Tom Burke, who stars as private investigator Strike in the adaptation of her books, that he could be playing the character for a long time to come.

"The first time I met Tom, I said, 'Well I hope to God you do enjoy playing this character because I think I’ve got at least another 10 books in me, so you could be locked in for quite a few years here,'" she said.

Rowling has already penned three Strike novels under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith – a charade which lasted only a few months.

However, there may be a glimmer of hope that she could dip her toe back into fantasy in the future: in December, the author revealed on Twitter that she is working on two novels – one as Galbraith, presumably the fourth Strike novel, and one under her own name.

She did not provide any further details on either, but there is always hope.

Strike: Cuckoo's calling debuted on the BBC on Sunday night to critical acclaim – beating the Victoria season 2 opener in the process. So if the early signs are anything to go by, the appetite is certainly there for more.
