BBC1's domestic thriller Doctor Foster returned for a second series on Tuesday night, and it's good to see that its ability to provoke a reaction from its fans has not waned in the two years since it last aired.

Set two years after the events of series one, any semblance of peace and calm in the life of Gemma Foster (Suranne Jones) is shattered by the return of her adulterous ex Simon (Bertie Carvel), now with a new wife in tow and designs on gaining custody of their son Tom.

The series two premiere sparked a whole lot of rage from fans on Twitter, as Gemma was forced to endure a dinner party that was also attended by the new couple.

A wry comment about Gemma's attire caused particular ire.

But could Gemma really endure a whole second series of this?

Our reviewer was certainly glad to have Doctor Foster back, but what did you think of the series premiere? Vote in our poll here.
