Here's how James Corden came up with Carpool Karaoke
It all began when he wanted to pick George Michael up from prison...

Gavin and Stacey's Smithy has come a lonnnng way since he was planning loft conversions in Billericay. Nowadays he can be found cruising around America with A-list celebrities while bonding and belting out hit pop songs.
In this interview with Stephen Colbert, James Corden describes how the idea for his Carpool Karaoke segment on The Late Late Show came about.
A clue – it all began with Corden wanting to do a Comic Relief sketch about picking George Michael up from prison and make him sing WHAM! songs.
It's a strange and wonderful tale, not least because he has to explain what Gavin and Stacey is to the American audience.
