Channel 4 is in discussions with the Peep Show writers to end the long-running sitcom, according to the broadcaster’s head of Comedy Phil Clarke.

“We’re talking about Peep Show, how that’s going to be rounded off,” he told Chortle, adding that the series is going to end “for sure”.

Starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb as dysfunctional flatmates Mark and Jez, Peep Show began on Channel 4 in 2003. It has so far run for eight series attracting critical acclaim, but never big viewing figures for the broadcaster.

As well as launching the careers of Mitchell and Webb, the programme has helped boost the careers of Olivia Colman and Matt King, who plays the drug-addled self-absorbed Super Hans.

Written by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, the sitcom has won numerous awards including the coveted Rose d’Or and several Baftas.

A C4 spokesperson told RadioTimes.com: "We're talking to Sam and Jesse about how to play out the last series whether it’s a series or a number of specials – they are the busiest men in comedy, film and drama."
