Professor Brian Cox's new series Forces of Nature (tonight, 9pm, BBC1) is basically a round-the-world trip via the great plains of the Serengeti, the volcanoes of Indonesia, the precipitous cliffs in Nepal, the humpback whales of the Caribbean and the Northern Lights of the Arctic.

Meanwhile, Ray Mears is off to Wild France (8pm, ITV1), having only just finished his Wild Australia series.
