Along with some snazzy names (Midnight Black and Cosmic Red), these new controllers will have the same next-gen features as the original PlayStation 5 DualSense controller - that means you'll get adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and a built-in microphone, as well as a nice lick of paint.

Getting into granular detail, the company says in an official PlayStation blog post, "Midnight Black features two subtly different shades of black with light grey detailing to reflect how we view space through the night sky, and Cosmic Red offers a striking black and red design inspired by the unique vivid shades of red found throughout the cosmos."

You can read on for all the essential details on the red and black PS5 controllers, which are sure to be popular items, including where to buy them!

Where to pre-order the red and black PS5 controllers

A number of retailers have put up their pre-order pages for the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red versions of the PS5 DualSense controller, and you can jump straight to those retailers using the links below:

Over in the USA, Amazon is also stocking the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red PS5 controllers, but the UK version of Amazon does not list these products yet. We'll keep you posted on that front!

When is the red and black PS5 controller release date?

Pre-orders have begun for the black PS5 controller and the red PS5 controller, with both of them having a confirmed release date of 18th June 2021. That appears to be the same date on either side of the Atlantic, with UK and USA retailers both listing that date on their product pages.

How much is the red and black PS5 controller price?

Here in the UK, judging by the product pages at GAME, the standard price for the Midnight Black PS5 controller appears to be £59.99 GBP, while the Cosmic Red PS5 controller is priced at £64.99.

Over in the USA, there is a similar discrepancy in the price: Best Buy lists the Midnight Black PS5 controller at $69.99 USD, but the Cosmic Red PS5 controller is slightly more pricey at $74.99.

If you're wondering why these exact colours were chosen, Sony's blog says, “Our goal is to always find designs that will surprise and entice our fans, and these new colors are the result of an extensive selection process. We wanted the new controller colors to complement each other, as well as the original DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console, so we designed the colors around the theme of ‘galaxy’ as it felt like a natural progression from the original PS5 and accessories designs.”

As and when more details on the red and black PS5 controller options are confirmed, we'll be sure to let you know! It won't be long before more product pages begin to appear.
