She may have missed out on the Oscar, but Jennifer Lawrence was a big winner at yesterday's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

The actress - who lost the best supporting gong to Lupita Nyong'o earlier this month - took home prizes for Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Female Buttkicker although, perhaps wisely, she gave the goo-covered ceremony a miss.

The Hunger Games was named Favourite Movie with Favourite Male Buttkicker handed to Iron Man 3 star Robert Downey Jr., Favourite Movie actor awarded to Adam Sandler and Favourite Animated Movie going to the Oscar-winning Frozen.

British band One Direction were also absent from the Los Angeles ceremony but that didn't stop them scooping awards for Favourite Music Group and Favourite Song (for their chart-topping hit Story of My Life).

But while the boys stayed away, tween queens Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande were both in attendance to pick up Favourite Female Singer and Favourite TV Actress with Kevin Hart also present to accept Favourite Funny Star beating out Kaley Cuoco, Andy Samberg and Sofia Vergara.

The ceremony - which is known for dousing its attendees in green slime - was hosted by Mark Wahlberg who boldly announced on stage that he was "just unslimable" before being stiched up by his own children and showered with goo for several minutes. Other unlucky celebs soaked in gunk included Pharrell Williams, Kaley Cuoco and teen star Austin Mahone.
