Jeff Goldblum and Liam Hemsworth confirmed for Independence Day 2
Jessie Usher has also joined the cast as the stepson of Will Smith's Captain Steve Hiller in the follow-up to the 1996 action flick
Independence Day 2 will welcome back a familiar face from the 1996 action hit, but it won't be star Will Smith. Instead, Jeff Goldblum has been confirmed to reprise his role as computer expert David Levinson, alongside new cast members Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher, who will play the stepson of Smith's character Captain Steven Hiller.
Usher – who is the lead in Starz series Survivor's Remorse – will play a central role in the upcoming follow-up, set for release on 24th June 2016. It will come almost two decades since the original film first hit cinemas on 3rd July 1996, becoming the highest grossing movie of they year.
Director Roland Emmerich is returning for the sequel and confirmed the news of his new castings on social media.

He added on Facebook that it was his producing partner Harald Kloser who first noticed Usher "in between sets of pushups at the gym and gave him an audition.
"As they say, the rest is history!"
Usher plays a basketball player who moves to Atlanta with his family in Survivor's Remorse with a second season already green lit by Starz. The Independence Day sequel marks a big break in the career of the 23-year-old whose previous film roles include last year's When the Game Stands Tall.
Smith's return for the sequel has been the subject of much speculation, although recent reports suggest he has opted not to return as Hiller. However, Bill Pullman – who plays US President Thomas J. Whitmore – is expected to reprise his role.
Filming on the sequel is expected to begin this May ahead of next year's release date.
