Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are starring together on stage in Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land, which will tour the UK before heading to London’s West End at the Wyndham’s Theatre.

The last time the legendary actors shared a West End stage was in 2013 when they played Estragon and Vladimir in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot.

In No Man's Land, the duo will take on the roles of ageing writers, Hirst and Spooner, who meet in a Hampstead pub and keep drinking into the night at Hirst’s stately house nearby. As the pair become drunker and drunker, their innocent chat soon turns into an unsettling power game.

Pinter’s play was first performed at the Wyndham’s Theatre in 1975 with Ralph Richardson and John Gielgud, after its premiere at the National Theatre.

Stewart, who will play Hirst, said: “I saw the original production of No Man's Land three times in one week at Wyndham's Theatre and would have seen it more if I could have afforded the tickets. I made a promise to myself that one day I would play Spooner or Hirst but to be doing it back at Wyndham's with Ian McKellen was a fantasy I never entertained."
