Remember when women frantically rushed to the hairdressers, a picture of Friends' Rachel Green clasped tightly in their hands? (I actually don't. I was still sporting pigtails...) Well, those days are well and truly behind us. Nowadays we Brits are lusting after Cheryl Cole's long, glossy curls instead.

The former Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge has topped a poll carried out by high street hairdressers Toni and Guy and her mane has been named the most copied hairdo in Britain.

And guess who she's pipped to the post? Only Jennifer 'the Rachel' Aniston, who came in fifth place. Aniston, who surely deserves some sort of accolade for being the original advocate of the 90s' most iconic hairdo, made it onto the list for her current long layers. Holly Willoughby's long blonde waves were named the second most coveted style, while Kelly Brook and Kate Middleton came in third and fourth.

Cameron Diaz, Zooey Deschanel, Kim Kardashian and Anne Hathaway also made it into the top ten, as did a second appearance from Cheryl Cole, this time with her long hair dyed red. It seems we just can't get enough of the Geordie lass's locks.

The important study also found that a third of us have asked for the exact same hairdo as a celebrity and 15% of us admit they would head to the hairdresser for a snip if their favourite star changed their hair colour or style.
