Euro 2012 preview: Poland v Greece
Group A, Warsaw, kick-off 5pm (coverage starts 4.15pm BBC1)
It's a nightmare draw for BBC1 commentator Steve Wilson, as two titans of consonant-heavy football clash in Warsaw. Hearing Wilson describe the action as Poland's Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Błaszczykowski conspire to outwit Greek defenders Avraam Papadopoulos and Sokratis Papastathopoulos could be the highlight of a tournament opener that is unlikely to be a 4-4 thriller.
Both teams are defensive. Greece have moved on slightly from the 2010 World Cup, when they were so negative some of their players were sitting in the stand behind the goal with their coats on, but they bored their way through qualifying. Poland are built on unshowy solidity too, but have three or four flair players. That's three or four more than the Greeks, so the co-hosts should start with a win.
STAR PLAYER: Poland striker Robert Lewandowski (above), who's been linked today with Manchester United. Every player in the tournament has been linked with Man U, but this came straight from the Polish coach, who says it's a done deal.
SECRET WEAPON: Pint-sized Greek trickster Ioannis Fetfatzidis, who has the best name of anyone in either squad (a stiffly contested mantle) and could come off the bench to liven his team up a tad. "FETFATZIDIS!" Steve Wilson might shout, showering 22 other international commentators with gob.
PREDICTION: Poland's trio of players from Bundesliga champs Borussia Dortmund – Piszczek, Błaszczykowski and Lewandowski – run rings round the Greek statues. 1-0 to the home side.
