Downton Abbey: the musical
Matthew Crawley and Lady Sybil make unexpected returns in American theatrical spoof
Ever since Matthew Crawley's tragic roadside demise, we've been a nation in waiting for Downton Abbey series four. And with months to go until Lord Grantham & co return to our screens, how about a little light musical relief?
A group of American stage actors have conceived a musical version of Downton Abbey series four, episode one...
Featuring spoof appearances from Lord Grantham, sisters Lady Edith and Lady Mary, as well as Julian Fellowes, the ten-minute featurette showcases Matthew Crawley's widow mourning her husband's demise, Lady Edith's renewed attempts to capture a love interest and, er, a song about tea from Carson and Mrs Hughes.
Directed by John Walton West, the production also features unlikely appearances from the spirits of not only Matthew but also Lady Sybil, who died in childbirth during the last series, and a deliciously frosty gathering of the Dowager Countess, Martha Levinson and Lady Isabelle.
And while the rumour mill has abounded with speculation about Lady Mary's next love interest, the spoof episode employs the talents of "an infinitely more handsome actor who has a longer contract" to ease her gloomy sorrow.
Starring The Book of Mormon's Matt Doyle as Thomas and Tony-nominated performers Laura Osnes and Jeremy Jordan as Lady Sybil and Mary's new love interest Lord Gillingham, here is Downton Abbey as you've never seen it before...
