It’s not often that you get the chance to sleep in a football stadium (in fact, I never have before), so as soon as you arrive at the DoubleTree at stadium:mk, home of MK Dons Football Club, there is a sense of intrigue around your stay.

A modern, well-presented and spacious hotel with ample free parking, the property has a friendly staff who -as is customary at Doubletree- greet you with a delicious warm cookie, before introducing you to the excellent on-site facilities.

I was travelling with a baby, and before I arrived the large room, with comfortable king-sized bed had already been prepared with a cot and a blanket for the little one.

The fittings are modern, and befitting of a hotel with the Hilton name attached – and the ensuite bathroom had one of the more powerful rainforest shower heads I’ve experienced this side of Christmas.

Oh, and did I mention, this hotel is in a football stadium. Some of the suites and rooms actually overlook the ground (something you’ll struggle to find in your average hotel), plus most of the communal facilities, including the restaurant and bar and executive lounge also offer a “pitchside” experience, which is certainly novel for a non-sports fan… and quite the thrill for a football enthusiast.

Home to large conference and banqueting facilities, the hotel is popular with both business and leisure guests – and can hold weddings up to 650 guests and delegations of around 1,000 people for business purposes in the ballroom. There's even a fitness centre if all this stadium stuff is making you feel sporty.

A comfortable and well-appointed hotel with a difference within easy reach of Milton Keynes and Luton Airport, this is a great place to stay no matter what your requirements.

Eating and drinking

The family-friendly Pitchside Restaurant offers panoramic views of stadium:mk from its contemporary feeling dining room and offers an excellent menu of modern British cuisine sourced with quality in mind.

The starter menu includes delicious and adventurous twists like Scotch egg with soldiers, beer battered mussels and chilli crab cakes – whereas the main courses offer a mix of high-quality meats and seafoods from the grill, Italian and pan-Asian cuisine. A well chosen wine list accompanies the delicious food menu.

For a lighter bite, or perhaps just a drink – the Pitchside Bar (located next door) offers food and drink throughout the day.

Room service is also available should you prefer to dine in the privacy of your room or suite.
