Friends and fellow comedians have paid tribute to Felix Dexter, who has died aged just 52.

The star of a range of comedies including black comedy The Real McCoy and The Fast Show died on Friday from myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer.

David Baddiel was among a number of fellow comics who took to Twitter to pay tribute to Dexter, describing his death as a "real loss to comedy".

Sean Hughes also wrote on Twitter: "So so sad to hear about the truly wonderful Felix Dexter passing away. I hope you can feel the love in the comedy community fella. Rip."

Bill Bailey said: "Very sad news about my old friend Felix Dexter. A brilliant comedian, a superb comic actor, a lovely man I feel privileged to have known."

Dexter enjoyed an eclectic career which included playing season with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as roles in BBC comedies The Fast Show and Absolutely Fabulous.

He was a guest on Have I Got News You and Grumpy Old Men and once appeared in the West End alongside Christian Slater.

More recently, he played three of the main roles in BBC Two's sketch show Bellamy's People and can currently be seen in the current run of BBC2 comedy Citizen Khan.
