Speed with Guy Martin – 8:00pm, Channel 4

Guy is on the hunt for a new adrenalin kick after becoming a cult hero for his documentary about the terrifying Isle of Man motorcycle race. And what could be more fitting than to see how fast he can go… on a bicycle. Sounds a bit tame, right? Well, he’s trying to beat the 110mph record, so not that easy after all. He even tries to use the slipstream of a lorry. Great festive action that’ll perhaps inspire your own cycle outside…

Palin also meets Helga Testorf, whom Wyeth painted almost 250 times in secret over a 15 year time span.

Live from the Artists Den: Adele – 9:00pm, Sky Arts 1

Forget the renditions of Adele’s songs you’ve heard on the various reality shows throughout the year. This is Adele, perched on a stool, coffee cup in hand singing to a tiny crowd who are so captivated they don’t even sing along. There’s also some lovely covers of other artists’ tracks.

Antiques Roadshow – 7:00pm, BBC1

It’s the big one – the most valuable object ever to have been sold after a Roadshow appearance is revealed. Plus, we get to find out if a painting by Flemish artist Anthony Van Dyck is actually worth far more than the £400 Father Jamie bought it for. There was no way of knowing the truth about the painting’s origins without taking half the paint off – and it’s been a long process of extensive restoration and authentication. Tonight the result is revealed.
