Based on the novel by E Nesbit, this classic film stars a familiar face - Call the Midwife's Jenny Agutter - as Bobbie, the daughter of a government official wrongly arrested on suspicion of treason. Robot WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class) is programmed to compress litter by the human race who abandoned the planet centuries earlier. His lonely existence is interrupted when probe-droid EVE pays a visit to earth, bringing the hope that Earth could be populated once again. From the Oscar-winning writer/director of Finding Nemo, Andrew Stanton, this loveable animated sci-fi comedy is vintage Pixar, starring Sigourney Weaver and tugging at the heartstrings

Mary Poppins - 4:15pm, BBC1

Given fresh attention this year with feature film Saving Mr Banks, this Disney musical classic starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke remains one of the studios best-loved movies. Practically perfect nanny Mary Poppins and her magic umbrella literally glide into the lives of the Banks family to look naughty and unhappy Jane and Michael. Watch this for a sing-a-long to such classics as Chim Chim Cheree, A Spoonful of Sugar and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Iron Man - 6:40pm, Film4

Robert Downey Jr stars as billionaire playboy and weapons genius Tony Stark, who’s captured and held hostage during a trip to Afghanistan. Forced to build a bomb, he devises an armoured suit allowing him to escape and take on the identity of superhero Iron Man. Co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges, Jon Favreau’s flick cleverly filters in the comic’s 1960s origins.

Quantum of Solace - 8:30pm, ITV

Daniel Craig returns for a second outing as 007, picking up one hour after Casino Royale left off with Bond looking for answers after the death of his lover, Vesper Lynd. The trail leads him to Quantum – a shadowy organisation fronted by eco-campaigner, Dominic Greene (Matheiu Amalric).

Dirty Dancing - 9:30pm, Channel 5

Squeaky clean teen Frances “Baby” Houseman meets dance instructor Johnny Castle at Kellerman’s summer camp who teaches her the art of “dirty dancing” in this beloved blockbuster. An iconic musical score, unmissable dancing helped catapult a then-unknown Patrick Swayze to super-stardom.
