Wes Anderson's 2001: A Space Odyssey is the mashup you didn't know you wanted
"Daisy, daisy..."

If Wes Anderson were ever to direct a sci-fi, it would probably be about a tambourine powered bicycle that could travel through space. Or it would be the Life Aquatic.
What it certainly wouldn't be is Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C Clarke's epic, ponderous 2001: A Space Odyssey.
And yet, and yet...
We simply can't believe how well this edit from Brandon C. Long works. The music's perfect, the non-nonsense astronauts now sound like hipster dorks, and even the special effects look like they're stop motion toys.
Nice work, and a reminder that Anderson can be surprisingly versatile.
