This is part two in the popular dystopian adventure for young adults based on Suzanne Collins’s trilogy of novels about a gladiatorial death match. Catching Fire finds the victorious Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) pressed back into service by the pompadoured ruling class to keep the rebellious masses entertained, this time fighting in a tournament that makes the first film’s look like “child’s play”, according to mentor Woody Harrelson. Everything’s bigger and noisier and deadlier, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman enjoys himself as the seemingly dastardly Head Gamemaker. For further intrigue, you’ll need to see Mockingjay Pts 1 and 2.
