Amazon Prime Video is really ramping up their original content ahead of the 2017/2018 season. Shows currently in the works include The Romanoffs from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and a drama starring Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore from David O Russell. Now, the streaming giants are getting into film adaptations.

Their latest project is a TV adaptation of the 2011 film Hanna, which is set to be written by The Night Manager screenwriter David Farr.

The film is a coming-of-age action flick starring Saoirse Ronan as a 15-year-old girl in northern Finland who spent her youth being trained by a CIA operative to become a skilled assassin. The critics were mostly impressed, and Farr, who co-wrote the original screenplay, believes there is more story to tell.

“I am delighted to be able to return to the Hanna story. Joe Wright’s movie was dazzling but inevitably there were certain elements that a feature length film wasn’t able fully to explore,” said Farr according to Deadline.

“It’s a pleasure therefore to be able to revisit the material in a longer format and take Hanna into whole new physical and emotional worlds. Amazon have shown such passion for the project and is the perfect home for Hanna.”

Farr is in high demand following the success of his John le Carré adaptation The Night Manager. He is currently working with the BBC and Netflix on a new historical epic depicting the fall of Troy, and has also been working with BBC1 for new crime series McMafia starring James Norton.
