The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – 7.25pm, ITV2

The first instalment of The Lord of the Rings trilogy introduces us to Frodo Baggins and friends – otherwise known as the Fellowship of the Ring – on their perilous journey to Mordor. Critically acclaimed fantasy adventure film based on the first volume of J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings.

Star Trek Beyond – 8.00pm, Sky Premiere

This exciting third instalment of the rebooted Star Trek series sees the return of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, reprising their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock, respectively. This highly entertaining space epic follows the group’s fight to protect the future of the Federation from ruthless villain Krall (Idris Elba). Includes a moving tribute to Leonard Nimoy.

Selma – 9.00pm, BBC2

Award-winning historical drama following the real life campaign led by Martin Luther King to ensure equal voting rights, still not a reality in the Deep South in 1965.

The Transporter 2 – 9.00pm, E4

Jason Statham returns as Frank Martin in this fast-paced action sequel to The Transporter. Having relocated to Miami, Martin is forced to take swift action when he is implicated in the kidnapping of a six-year old boy.

Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy – 11.45pm, BBC1

Will Ferrell doesn’t disappoint as the womanising San Diego newsman Ron Burgundy in this critically acclaimed comedy. Life couldn’t be better for Burgundy and his news-team; that is, until his TV station decides to embrace diversity and hires a new female anchor who might just replace Ron as the most successful news anchor in San Diego.
