Easter 2017: best films on TV today, Easter Saturday

Wartime drama based on the novel of the same name by Markus Zusak. Against the chilling backdrop of the horrors of Nazi Germany, some humanity is found within the tale of a young girl who discovers a love of literature through the kindness of her foster-father and the companionship of a Jewish man sheltered by her adoptive parents.

Bean – 6.45pm, ITV2

A comedy for all the family. Rowan Atkinson is a perfectly bumbling Mr Bean in this hit movie, based on the popular TV show of the same name.

Finding Dory – 7.15pm, Sky Premiere

This highly anticipated spinoff to 2003’s Finding Nemo is worth the wait for those who missed the chance to see it on the big screen. The kind-hearted but helplessly forgetful Dory returns with a story of her own – beginning a search for her long-lost parents, but not without the help of her friends Marlin and Nemo along the way. A must-see for adults and kids alike, this film could prove a tear-jerker for some, even amongst the laughs.

The Imitation Game – 9.00pm, Channel 4

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as real-life British cryptanalyst Alan Turing in this wartime thriller. Mathematician and scientist Turing and his team race against time to decipher the German Enigma codes used to encrypt their communications, as World War Two rages around them.

Taken 2 – 9.00pm, E4

Action sequel starring Liam Neeson, who reprises his role as former CIA agent Bryan Mills. A few days in Istanbul with his daughter and ex-wife take a turn for the worse when the father of a kidnapper killed by Mills seeks revenge.

The Expendables – 9.25pm, ITV

This action adventure movie is the first in The Expendables film series, and features big names including Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham. The film follows a band of highly skilled mercenaries who are enlisted to assassinate a murderous dictator on a South American island, but all may not be as it seems.

War of the Worlds – 9.45pm, BBC2

This sci-fi disaster film, loosely based on the H. G. Wells novel, stars Tom Cruise as Ray Ferrier; a divorced dockworker fighting for survival with his kids as extraterrestrials invade the Earth with monstrous war machines.
