Sci-fi adventure starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Idris Elba. Three years into its five-year mission, the USS Enterprise stops off at a remote outpost for maintenance and provisions. There the crew answer a distress call from a stranded ship, but they are attacked by an army of unknown aliens that overwhelms the Enterprise.
The 13th movie in the franchise marries intense action with character-driven humour and philosophical musings to deliver a phenomenally entertaining space epic. After being lured by a bogus distress call to the planet of Altamid, the crew of the Enterprise come under attack and are forced to abandon ship. Only by teaming up with a zebra-faced alien (Sofia Boutella) do they stand a chance of thwarting the war-mongering desires of lizard-like ruler Krall (Idris Elba). Director Justin Lin succeeds in paying homage to past TV-series glories (there's a moving tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy), while delivering the most spectacular special effects seen in the entire cosmic canon. The result is a superior sci-fi adventure that could well be the best Trek movie since The Wrath of Khan.
