Fantasy action adventure starring James Marsden, Jim Carrey and the voice of Ben Schwartz. Hunted for his incredible powers, super speedy alien Sonic lives a lonely life in hiding on Earth. When he accidentally causes a power surge, Sonic is thrown into the orbit of kindly local sheriff Tom - but also that of unhinged scientist Dr Robotnik.
Despite some post-production "airbrushing" because test audiences didn't like his looks, the speedy blue video-game icon cuts a spiky dash in his feature debut. Games characters don't always transition well from small screen to big (1993's Super Mario Bros. certainly plumbed the depths), but this particular cocktail of live action and CGI is fast-paced and fun, and is sure to keep both kids and nostalgic gamers amused. The plot has space creature Sonic enlisting the help of a small-town cop (James Marsden) in escaping the clutches of a mad scientist, played with relish by a scene-stealing Jim Carrey. Despite some fairly patchy animation, this is Sonic at the top of his game.
